According to the news he gave his name as "Death to traitors, freedom for Britain" before the magistrates.

While it sounds like he may have had some psychological isues in the past, doctors have concluded that he is fit to stand trial.

So, sadly this was a premeditated hate crime by a far right supporter. It will be hard not to politisize the politically motivated murder of a politician. At the very least, this is a very sad reminder of the radicalized society that we live in these days. What can we do to fix this?
While i get your sentiments, I struggle from my experience of mental health, that it is ever 100% fixed. I dont wish to diminish anyone who is unwell, but the care they receive is shocking. Treatment can be refused which leaves sectioning, which beleive it or not, is so far down the line its untrue, and tablets are unused because people feel better and so slide back into illness. Obviously I dont know everything about this case, but Ill put money it will have some bearing. Not an excuse but a cause and a sad indictment that happens too often.

I have to be honest, Johnz, I have yet to see any proper evidence that this evil bastard was anything other than a lone psycho, certainly nothing solid that indicates he was properly affiliated with the far-right, or anyone else for that matter..?  If you've got anything, I'd love to see it...

For my money, it seems to be proof that if the media drum up immense hysteria and potential hatred for their own various ends, some weak minded and potentially violent fuckwit with soak it up and do something terrible.

I agree to an extent. It's not just the media though. You are probably familiar with this quote from Britain First leader Jayda Fransen:

“They think they can get away with ruining our country, turning us into a Third World country, giving away our homes, jobs and heritage, but they will face the wrath of the Britain First movement, make no mistake about it!
We will not rest until every traitor is punished for their crimes against our country. And by punished, I mean good old fashioned British justice at the end of a rope!”

I'm sure you can see how this might inspire some people to take matters into their own hands. It looks like this guy may have toyed with far-right ideas for a long time. The hysteria of the last few weeks probably made him snap.

But that doesn't make it an unfortunate accident. We do have this level of extremism in our society now and to me, those who incite others to become violent are as guilty as the perpetrators themselves.

I probably shouldn't knock back a sleeping pill after a few beers... it does lead to brain confusion-stuff...   ???

...and it is very dangerous MR. Jimi Hendrix, John Bonham, Janis Joplin. Need I say more. Beer plus suppressants equals big trouble!  :)

True that, and mostly accepted... I'd just suggest that the cavalcade of utter bollocks that is invading the collective consiousness is more prevalent than the sad little words of a bunch of right-wing nutters who nobody really takes seriously other than a few scumbags... and I still haven't seen any proof that the guy was actually affiliated with the far right movement...

But this is just semantics. His trial will show up what really happened, if one actually happens... two people were brutally stabbed one Saturday morning in my hometown a couple of years ago and there was no big trial, the guy was just committed with no public explanation...

I get trying to let kids follow their own path, though almost impossible with schools and society divided into sect's.kids needed to be encouraged n gently guided with their choices but its their lives to lead.
I've said controversially maybe on other threads religion can be a really good thing for many people just think of the religious people who do good acts every day for their community's . Football even as a fan its at worst valium for the masses or maybe even a tribal family gathering. Pet ownership sorry but just don't get where your coming from on that one

Caroline Aherne...what a loss at 52. Brilliant in the Royle Family. Has had her private demons but seemed like a nice lady
 Shame.

Not meant as an afterthought, but stay strong Turkey.

Terrible news about Caroline Aherne. Didn't know she was ill. Mega talented and beautiful lady. Only 52.

Sad about Caroline Aherne.  I ran into her in Manchester a long time ago.  We passed by each other on Oxford Road, I was all 'blimey, it's her off of The Royle Family' (big fan of that show), didn't say anything but she caught me looking, gave me a really nice smile and a 'hiya' as our paths crossed.  Seemed like a really nice lady and much prettier in 'real life' than her TV appearances might have indicated.

Just realised that Caroline Aherne and Alan Rickman are two of the very few celebrity names who I ran into in the past... and both passed away in recent months.

I saw Bill Nighy in London about four years ago.  I fear for the man.
