Sad to here about Ken Dodd... saw him live a few years ago. Wasn't keen to go, to be honest, didn't think it would be my cup of tea, but there was a spare ticket going so why not... absolutely laughed my arse off, just brilliant.
The odd thing is that most of his jokes were kind of obvious and corny but, as another comedian once said, 'it's the way you tell 'em'... and Mr Dodd told them brilliantly. I've never seen a comedian take control of an audience like he did. About three hours long and there was rarely a lull. I've seen much more fashionable comedians try and drag their set out for a single hour.
And, sidenote, in the UK he had the third biggest selling single from the WHOLE of the 1960's? More so than most of the Beatles tracks (only 'She Loves You' and 'I Wanna Hold Your hand' beat that) and more than The Stones or Elvis ever had... the best The Stones ever managed was number 36...
The guy was an entertainment legend in every sense of the word, even if you weren't a fan you have to admit that. RIP, Sir.
