Blimey... Cranberries singer Delores O'Riordan, aged just 46.  I'm not going to claim to be the biggest fan of this band but they were prevalent during my beloved 90's and hearing a tune of theirs does give me a nostalgia flash...

Oh blimey, it appears that Mark E Smith, singer from The Fall, has died!  Not a huge fan, personally, but a legendary figure in the UK indie music scene...

He was on the bill the first time I saw NMA at Brockwell Park in 84.Also saw him in a pub in Manchester before a NMA gig a few years ago.Not a fan but you've got to admire his work rate(Almost an album a year throughout his career)RIP

Mark E was one of a kind. No one, NO ONE in the music scene was like him.

And for you folks that were not fans, there is something in The Fall catalogue that you would love. Similar to NMA. I guarantee you we could find a few songs that someone with no interest would enjoy. The Fall had near forty years of albums and singles. I know there's stuff in there you would absolutely love. You are really missing out if you don't give them a serious try.

I saw them live once, It was in New York City in 1985. Mark E. had his back to the audience the whole show. Most times he was squatting down...with his back to us. He was something. He did what he wanted to do. He is one who really did it his way.

Sad to here about Ken Dodd... saw him live a few years ago.  Wasn't keen to go, to be honest, didn't think it would be my cup of tea, but there was a spare ticket going so why not... absolutely laughed my arse off, just brilliant.

The odd thing is that most of his jokes were kind of obvious and corny but, as another comedian once said, 'it's the way you tell 'em'... and Mr Dodd told them brilliantly.  I've never seen a comedian take control of an audience like he did.  About three hours long and there was rarely a lull.  I've seen much more fashionable comedians try and drag their set out for a single hour.

And, sidenote, in the UK he had the third biggest selling single from the WHOLE of the 1960's?  More so than most of the Beatles tracks (only 'She Loves You' and 'I Wanna Hold Your hand' beat that) and more than The Stones or Elvis ever had... the best The Stones ever managed was number 36...

The guy was an entertainment legend in every sense of the word, even if you weren't a fan you have to admit that.  RIP, Sir.

Sad indeed, probably one of the greatest minds ever.  Although he's one of those celebrities who suddenly started speaking in an American accent once he got famous...  ;)

Old Joke, I know, but Mr Hawkins (by all accounts) had a big sense of humour...

Also RIP Jim Bowen, probably means nothing to folks outside of the UK, but a familiar face on UK TV for those of us of a certain vintage (ie, most of us...  ;) )
