Love Space
« on: April 06, 2015, 11:58:59 PM »
I'm watching the 30th anniversary gig which is brilliant. I' m thinking Space is a fan. He may not do the deferential, everything the band do is brilliant thing. He's a fan with a different attitude to most of us. If I ever visit America and I'm in his neighbourhood, I'd buy him a drink and chat about it all. I think we should cherish and love him. Who's with me?

A) Yes, I do not say, "Everything New Model Army does is the bestest! They are my BFFs!" Taylor Swift fans do that. I do not understand how people here love EVERYTHING the band NMA has done. Surely over thirty plus years something must have disappointed you.

B) Buying me a drink is pointless. I don't drink alcohol. I am not a weakling who relies on beer to give me muscles.

C) You should not all cherish and love me. What you should do is just bow down and worship me.

Perhaps buy him a coffee or food if he doesn't drink. Everyone has to eat at some point.  :)

Drinking is not really a big part of American culture as it is in England.

Drinking is only big here in America amongst young dopey people and old loser drunks. Outside of those groups, we Americans are not big on drink. We are big on money, sports, guns, and religion.

In Europe, people, families, friends use to eat together. It's sort of a social event.

BTW, Space, your constant insults about whose who choose to drink alcohol ('dopey' / 'weakling' / 'loser' etc...) are just indicative of a sad little viewpoint of yours...  US folks don't like to drink?  Tell that to the lovely, funny, wonderful folks I drank with in Connecticut, Boston, Miami, Chicago, Orlando and, yes, your beloved New York.  Beers and shots all over the ******* place and not a face without a smile on it.

I have inter-continental experience. Are you that worldly?

Ok we are going a bit of thread but nowt new.

Want to say alcohol is brilliant in its place and im all for people using to relax and have a good time. I'm done it many times myself and could never knock anyone else for it.

On the flip side i come from a country that has a shameful reputation for alcohol misuse, i have a good friend who is a ex alcoholic and seen many others have a problem with it. I not one for preaching so will leave this debate open.

Appreciate what you're saying, Pol, but the ratio of people who drink to alcoholics... gotta be pretty damn small.  We're talking a small percentage of 1%.

Space is talking about 'people who drink' in a far wider (and truly insulting) context, mate...

In my experience MR, alcoholics equal if not outnumber druggies. Alcohol can either make or ruin things. Depends on the individual I guess. I enjoy a drink socially. Too old for hangovers. I was close to becoming an alcoholic once. Im fairly well balanced so if it can grab me, it can grab anyone.

Um, I started a thread a while back about drinking and how worrying it can be...

http://board.newmodelarmy.org/index.php?topic=8611.0

Guess Space now has more ammunition to talk about 'losers' and 'weaklings' etc...

Love Space!
