How do you live happily with the constant threat of terrorism?
« on: November 20, 2015, 10:34:58 AM »
Now it's not safe. Nowhere is safe. My friend said if we don't enjoy our lives, they have won.

But how does one do that when their human right of safety has been taken away?
People should not fear being killed everywhere they go. It's ethically and morally wrong that they do this.

ISIS has ruined the entire world.

But if you do and they kill you, then they have also won. They want to kill all of us

Easy really... stop following the obsessively disproportionate media coverage of these types of events that plays so many tricks on you.....  the fascination of the evil is human I guess, and that is how they win...

If you are interested in more probable threats of dying, consider the following list (even if wrong country, year... the gist of it remains the same):

http://concisepolitics.com/2015/06/10/tots-more-dangerous-than-terrorists-to-americans/
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/scientists-calculate-odd-ways-die-282884

You're more likely to die from falling out of bed, flu, hot weather, a cop than in a terror attack.

More than 2,500 left-handed people are killed every year around the world from using equipment meant for right-handed people.

And if any of this does happen, then what did it help to worry about it beforehand? Giving in to fear of something inevitable (death) but under highly unlikely circumstances (terror attack) is the worst option for leading a life in my book...

^I agree 100% with this.

An article I read a while ago explained how we tend to be more afraid of threats that we are less...familiar with as opposed to everday threads. For example, getting in your car and driving to work. Look at how many people get injured or die in care-related accidents every day. But (most of us) depend on a car to get to work, get around, we are used to them, also used to hearing about accidents - but still we don't worry constantly about getting hurt on our way to work.

It's just highly unlikely that you are going to die in a terrorist attack - so just do what you would normally do and enjoy life = you win.  :)

Plus, the world has always been a very dangerous place, there have always been terrorist attacks, long before IS: we had the RAF in Germany, the UK had the IRA - to name but a few. These days, we get much more information way quicker than only a couple of years before so it's easy to come to believe things have gotten a lot worse - but I honestly believe that is not the case.

I'm going to a show tomorrow night - Black Star Riders - and while the poor people at the Bataclan will certainly be on everyone's mind, I am certainly not afraid.

Exactly  :) :) :)

Carry on with life as normal.

The chances of the terrorism problems affecting me are so remote i'll live my life as usual.

If Amanda we all became so worried not one of us would venture outside our front door and then we would be more likely to be killed or injured by an accident in our own home
Is is a crime to believe in something different?

I meant what I said at the time that I said it

To reiterate something I posted about 20 minutes ago...

If there's one thing my recent heart attack (yeah, I'm still banging on about THAT  ::)  ;) )has shown me is that when your numbers up, it's up.  I might have died a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't.  Could happen anytime, anyplace, anywhere.  A school friend of mine died of a brain haemorrhage aged 12.  A mates girlfriend died in a car crash aged 19.  An ex-girlfriends auntie had a fatal stroke in her late 20's. I'm sure we've all got similar stories.   :'(

Never let these c-words dictate your life.  You have far more chance of getting killed everytime you get in your car than you have getting murdered by terrorists.

They haven't ruined the world.  The worlds a cruel and random place, always was and always will be.  It owes you nothing.  I say, live in it to the best of your abilities and fook it all when the shit falls down.
Rah! Rah! Rah! We're going to smash the oiks!

I agree with going on with your life is the way to go.
but I still have the constant worry of being attacked.
I was a kid during 9/11 and remember being at school and watching the news.
Most of the kids were very frightened. Some crying.
It's not a way kids should grow up. I remember the terrorist chart.
I spent a lot of childhood thinking about it. It stopped.
Then IS pricks start it again.
Now another generation of kids will be scared. I imagine kids in Paris are terrified.
That is never how it should be.

All these things you fear so much depend on angles of vision
From down in the maze of walls you can't see what's coming
But from high on the high hills it all looks like nothing
But from high on the high hills it all looks like nothing, nothing...

look at this image and you can see, that an irrational fear campaign is going on.

it shows the count of people died by terror acts the last years

remember:
a way to keep people in line is to scare the shit out of them

that is what's happening. by the terrorists, whoever they are, and by our media who is controlled by money and money wants war

ever tried. ever failed. no matter.
try again. fail again. fail better.

Great post I was going to reply like this but you have done it already.

In the main life here in the west is safe. If you choose to read the news and apply events like that everywhere then you will live a miserable life. There are billions on this planet, just because some horrific thing happens to some doesn't mean it is all f****d.

Well A, I cant help you if you have constant worry. That is a sense of perspective you will have to get yourself.  :)

Most of us remember the IRA terrorism. Just near me people were killed in the centre of Warrington by a bomb while out shopping. My nearest city Manchester was devastated and people killed more than once. But I still live a good life.

As MR and others have said there are many other things that can harm or kill you and are more likely. Just forget it and live your life, the chances are so slim as to be ridiculous.

Couple of weeks time, the Army are playing Manchester. Wouldn't miss that if Cobra said the nutters are everywhere and if the threat of an attack went from red to crimson to bloody purple!
