Its the most natural thing to talk about favorites and least favorites. Thats what passionate music lovers do. And if you cant stand negativity just stick to the OTHER thread about the favorites tracks.

I STILL (years after the last time I talked about this) don't understand the need here to talk about what you all  DON'T like about New Model Army's new albums (or the old ones for that matter) - this being THEIR OWN internally run noticeboard.

Any thought to the band members feelings, since this is THEIR site? You know, those passionate guys who are very likely excited about the new release getting into the hands of the fans and then immediately seeing everyone go on about their LEAST FAVORITE TRACK on their board of the supposed "biggest fans"?

Ahhh the internet - making everyone feel their EVERY opinion is important and valid enough to shout to the world.

So this is mine. ;)

And where exactly has anyone stated what they do not like ?

Read the title of the thread  -- Least  FAVOURITE track on Winter - SO FAR

I like all the songs on the album, it is superb. My least favourite at this stage is "beginning". Fail to see why that is a problem, I was just trying to generate discussion on how people first react to the album. In a week or three, "Beginning" may well be my most favourite. I also started a thread called -- Most favourite track on Winter - so far,, if you care to look

Tell Frank Black I loved his solo stuff!

And tell him I hated it.  Stick with the band and quit changing your damn name.

Oy!  'Teenager Of The Year' was a great album!

I mean, who could resist a song called 'Whatever Happened To Pong'?

On first listen:

"beginning"
"burn the castle",

So, folks abroad get the album before I did?

I tried to order the album on the Shop but it didn't work!! :'(
So i bought the cd yesterday at my local shop. ;)

After 3 listens i now dig "Burn the castle" so my least favourite tracks are:

"Beginning"
"Part the waters"
"Eyes get used to the darkness"

So, Sequonia... do you actually think that NMA are so arrogant that they believe that everything they do is beyond criticism and, if it doesn't find favour in the ears of the fans, should be regarded as a personal insult?

This is a band that has constantly played with their 'sound' and flits between genres so that they can keep it all exciting and different after 30+ years.  It's highly unlikely that every single track they ever did would be beloved by the fanbase.

If I made a living making music with a band, I'd be very interested in what people thought of my work, whether it be good or bad.

Every opinion is important and valid, as you somewhat disparagingly noted... as are all the ones here in this site.  Or is there a cut-off point where people should not be allowed to express an opinion?  Any advice as to where that might be?   ???

do you actually think I am that naive?
And you imply I see the band as arrogant?  your words, not mine.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, in the world as far as Im concerned. To me, this is about being respectful and polite. I used to work on a lot of records in my recording studio days. I sat in on a lot of "listening parties" when said records were complete. All the friends, industry peeps, etc would be invited to drink and listen with the band, who were, undoubtedly very excited for people to hear all the songs they thought were great.

Do I think not one person in those rooms had any negative feelings about anything they heard? of course not.

But not once did I ever hear anyone say within earshot of the band what they didnt like about the music they were hearing. Because, perhaps that would be rude.

So I ask you, where is the line?  Would you all be voting out loud on the least favorite song if you sitting in a room WITH the band members after your first listen? Do you think the band would poll you all to ask for some honest criticism?

Does the line get drawn as it becomes the internet?
If the band were all live here in a chatroom with you all as we all listened, would you then talk about the least favorite song?

Im just curious, where is the line for you? To me, in this space, its rude. Thats all. Thats MY opinion. Clearly, ONLY mine.

edit:
I never said anything about what should be "allowed" or not - long ago I was quite an advocate on here against censoring ANY words/opinions/etc , no matter what. Thats not what this OPINION of mine was about.

Are we that naive? I already referred to having this conversation in the past on here, I think your comment is already understood by all.
But I promise you, these works are all quite personal to the people that spent long hours creating them.

Same here.

Only played it around a dozen times so struggling to find one I don't really like, first impressions are it's a stunning mix

I'll be driving to Stoke and back most days now until Christmas (200 mile round trip) so it will get plenty of play
Is is a crime to believe in something different?

I meant what I said at the time that I said it

Hi Seq.  Thanks for responding.  All the best to you and yours.

Firstly, I don't know if you're naïve.  Obviously, I don't know you.

Secondly... this stuff about 'would you say stuff about the band / songs if they were in a room with you...' well, if it was respectful and they asked, then yes, I would.  I don't regard the band as arrogant, I've met many of them, over the years, including Justin. I know that they work hard to make as much good music as they can and play the best shows that they can.

They completely appreciate their fanbase and don't take them for granted.  So, yes, 100 percent, they are interested in what we think about the stuff they poured their hearts and souls into.  I'm not saying that they would change anything that they do, that would be ridiculous.

Discussing the music you love is not dismissive of something you are passionate about, not for a single second.  No other opinion is valid.  Even if it isn't completely favourable.

Where is the line?  Heck, you drew it, my friend, not me...

 :(

Sequonia this is not a vote to determine the least favourite song. As I said before, it is a look at peoples early reaction to the album after a few listens - just the same as its sister thread is a way to determine most favourite after first listens.

To answer one of your recent questions, if I were in a room with the band discussing how I felt about the tracks on this album, I would be prepared to say that after a few listens, I like every single track, at this stage my favourite is "Eyes get used to the Darkness", my least is "Beginning", but expect it will grow on me with more listens. Remember - "least favourite" is still a favourite - a song you like, but less than the others.

I will add this, if this thread has remotely offended any member of the band, something I would truly hate to do while discussing your excellent new album, please send me a p/m, I will delete this thread instantly.

So - if you see this thread disappear, you know why.

I'd hate to see this thread disappear.

Nobody's said anything as truly nasty as some of the things that were said in 'The Space Days'.

Some diversive comments got thrown around.  I'd love to see how they develop.
