The music was great. The set list was great. The evening was well worth the A3/M25/A2 haul from the Surrey/Hants border and we'd do it again no problem.
The venue wasn't so good really. Because it's long and thin it was hard to get away from the strange people who persist with their endless far too loud chatter. This was not enjoyng the music chatter. This was **** you I want to be heard above the musicians chatter. Very strange. I came away feeling that some people seem to go to gigs to see their mates not listen to the performance. Don't they realise that performing musicians need audience contribution to bring out a special magic? There was a white haired lady in glasses near me who had her back to the musicians and talked continuously to her friends for the whole of the last 20 minutes. I am guessing she went home with her ego satisfied and pretty much oblivious to what most of the rest of us had travelled to experience.
Fortunately it far from ruined the evening. The performance, the music, the songs, the words were too powerful for that. However I feel strongly enough to bother to come on the forum and see whether it was just me who thought the chatterers were a bit over the top this time and I am relieved to see I am not alone.
Whilst writing I must say that Justin certainly brings me to places I wouldn't visit by any other choice. Gillingham is a sad rundown place. But hey the locals we met in the Canterbury Tales pub beforehand and at the pool table in the venue were very friendly, very nice. So many thanks to them, Justin and Dean for another memorable evening.
