OK, I've made no secret of the fact that I think I live in a town full of dickheads. Crewe, in South Cheshire, a grim place where everything seems to be closing down and the only thing that seems to be increasing in the number of homeless people. Business is poor, the local government is pretty much bankrupt and it's a rare day when you don't see some example of physical or emotional violence committed on another human being because people are that drunk / angry / stupid etc...
But. I don't suppose any of you have seen the UK news reports about the Beechmere fire? Basically, a huge nursing home in Crewe caught fire, displacing a great many elderly folks, many of whom had Alzheimers or the like. A clip beneath, you only need to watch a minute or two to get an idea about what I'm talking about...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDCATTXb0bkAnd what did 'my town full of dickheads' do..? Responded massively and heroically. There were rescue centres set up, asking for donations and, I swear, there were queues around the block, people giving anything they could spare or afford, vans unloading a big cargo of much-needed items, people donating money, you get the idea.
So, yeah, what 'made me happy' today? Feeling a bit of pride for my hometown. I can't remember the last time that happened.
