Thirdly (and most importantly IMO), you don't have to tell me about 'life threatening events'.  You did pick up on my posts about my heart attack in November?  Truly life-changing, as you mentioned. I was in the specialist unit at Royal Stoke.  Made a full recovery, going to cardio rehab every week, should be fine.  I see people every week who have it far worse than I do.

I'm afraid I can go one better that you. On Sunday 10th Jan I suffered a cardiac arrest and died. Luckily I had already been admitted to the University Hospital of North Midlands. And as I was there they had a crash team to bring me back. I now have to wear a life vest now I'm home in case for 6 weeks and then they will decide then what to do. Yes I agree, truly changing. As for full recovery, I'm not sure. Mentally devastating.

Very sorry to hear that ldopas. Best wishes to you for recovery.  Sadly I think we will encounter this on here more often as so many of us are in our mid to late 40's and beyond. I would moan about my ailments, but against what you have been through, and M/R and Wezzy, I will not bother.

Best of luck to you mate.  ;)

This year has started really fiercely when we hear these news all the time. M/R & Idopas health issues, and departs of Lemmy, Bowie, Griffin etc. etc.

If you struggle I would recommend snuff. It helped me before I found e-cigs. It is a nasty habit, but it did take the edge off those cravings you get in the first month or two

Snuffing it is relatively harmless. The powder goes into your nose and nicotine seeps through the skin of the nasal passage. The only problem is the mess you see when you blow your nose.

Ok, well have to admit before I started with cigs I used snuff for 2-3 years. It's not so healthy as sometimes people think. If we'll take a look at Sweden it's been a tradition there for very long time. What it does after the years it digs a pit or a bowl to a "barrier" of skin that resides between upper gum and nose/or eye. There are people who've snuffed for nearly twenty years and they could hide a forefinger into the pit. And also, it's not good for teeth. When I used snuff I lost two pieces of tooth and lost most of the teeth glaze.

We have a strict prohibition here to sell snuff and e-cigs. Firms can produce snuff but not to sell it here. (I used to purchase them from black market kiosks illegally). And what comes to e-cigs, they don't allow selling them here because there are no accepted proof tests they'd be harmless. (What's unbelievable you can still buy cigarettes here though they cost a lot).

Thanks. You know what really pisses me off though. I'm only 46 myself.

When I briefly stuffed four years ago I remember reading about that way of taking snuff by putting a parcel of it in the mouth and leaving it there. I read it was popular in Scandinavia, I have not encountered here. I also read that there has never been a case of nose cancer linked to snuff using it the traditional way. I did read that there was a chap who used to pour it down his ear and managed to get a cancer in his ear. Not 100% safe, but surely safer than smoking.

@ Idopas: Best wishes to recover soon
I`m older than 46 - sometimes it is hard getting older and only a few lucky ones have no health problem at all (and I have a lot of these nasty problems)   >:(

Snuff - is that a kind of a joke?
If snuff is (translated) Schnupftabak - my granny thought, it would help people with "Schnupfen" or not getting it.
"Schnupfen" is having a cold, fever, a running nose - and she thought, it`s ok (she or I) use it  ;D
Snuff (for the nose) never had something to do for me with a real ciggy ...

Snuff (my translation) is Kautabak? That`s really something else - perhaps that works, if you want nicotine and are not allowed to smoke - never tested to put this in my mouth and chewing or storing it somewhere under my tongue -  ggrrrr ; that was something for hard working or drinking man on a low level in my youth, spitting on the ground inside a pub or on the bordwalk  ...

Still prefer my self rolled ciggies (knowing that`s not good) ...
And me, I`ve got a black place in my heart
Still got this hole in me
Perhaps - I am the master of nothing?

Aw, hell, mate... didn't realise it was that bad!

Hope your treatment is going well.  Chill as much as you can, you need it.  As one 'cardiac arrest person' to another, can I just advise that you need to rest as much as possible... you may have days when you feel stronger and are tempted to push it... don't.  It's easier to knock yourself on your arse than you think it might be.

I've been doing cardio rehab and one thing I've been told by the brilliant nurses there is that we are at a very good age to have a first heart attack (in fact, I turned 46 today)... ok, we're not spring chickens but we're still (relatively) young enough to make a full recovery.  Put it like this, I'm the youngest person in my cardio class by a long stretch and they're suffering far more than me...

The mental side of it... PM me if you want.

I made it through and I'm feeling better than I've done in a good long while.  I hope you will too.  Best wishes, mate, hope you overcome this shit and get back to ragging me about our political differences!   ;)

Now just taking a look at the future. During the new year i understood my father has opened a bottle once again. I don't like it, neither doesn't his wife. Well, my good old friend started to smoke at his 40's. Really! I think they both act ridiculously and don't want to make it easier for them.  >:(

Lotus and Shush, here's the snuff (it's a scandi-version), SNUS actually. Earlier in history it contained crunched glass and poisons to kill insects too. The microscopic glass bits "broke" the skin so nicotine could get in the blood. No need to spit with this:

Ldopas and Master Ray: the things you've gone through are so new to most of us. We should remember your words in a case it may some day happen to anyone else of us.  :-X

Yes, I have heard of this before. When the pocket is in the mouth it is design to cut the surface so  the nicotine can leach in. Snuff here in the U.K. is just tobacco dried and ground down to a fine powder - then you sniff it to go up your nose. Not as common now as it used to be.
