OK, this one really pissed me off today... Simon Dudley, the Conservative leader of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (which includes Windsor Castle, Eton College and Ascot racecourse) has demanded that police use legal powers to clear the area of homeless people before the royal wedding in May.  Sent from when he was on a skiing holiday in Wyoming over Christmas and saying 'residents have had enough of this exploitation of residents and 6 million tourists pa [per annum]'.   ::) And then mentions the Vagrancy Act of 1824 as something that Thames Police can use!

I know I'm always posting about my hatred of the Tories, but this is a new low, surely..?

Just watching sky news,  there reporting that in parts of London 1 in 25 are homeless , many of whom are in work.  Most of us are only a month or two away from the same fate. As someone who has been homeless,  it's fckin horrible,  the hostels are nearly as bad as sleeping rough , seen people getting stabbed n slashed in them .

Im assuming he's a council leader? Like, the ones that can provide housing for homeless people?

Oh, this REALLY pisses me off... the whole Carillion thing.  On the verge of going 'bump' to the tune of one and a half billion £££s...

The firm is facing the threat of collapse under the burden of £1.5billion in debt - with fears of dire consequences for a host of public services.  The company holds a range of crucial government contracts, including with schools, hospitals, prisons and transport infrastructure.  So, basically, there are two options... the firm goes under and public services suffer terribly or it's another billion or so for the Tories (who gave them the contracts in the first place despite Carillion being a dodgy prospect at best) to drag from public money so they can bail out their rich pals.  Just like bailing out the banks all over again... and I'm pretty sure the high-level idiots who fucked up Carillion will walk away with six or seven figure bonuses...   >:(

To be fair to The Maybot, reports indicate that she might not actually do this... but let's be honest, it'll happen. We all know that. If I'm wrong, I'll apologise.

Erm Carillion have been awarded contracts for years. Many of them from Labour, so it is not right to just blame the Tories. They built the M6 Toll Road for example to tune of billions awarded by nice Mr Blair. In the end the government would have had to pay for a lot of this anyway in deferred payments (that is why I do very little public sector work as the state is slow to pay and only pays at the end of a contract in the main meaning cashflow is insane). You could look at it that they are having to pay a lot of it up front, but in the end most of the services will go on as others will bid to take them over.

Now the pension issue and the management are a whole 'nother thing and I agree there are questions to be asked!!!!!!

OK, I was wrong... genuinely surprised to hear the Tories didn't bail out Carillion.  I, in a rare moment of appreciation, respect them for that. Blimey, I think the sound you hear is hell freezing over...  ;D

Totally appreciate what you're saying... especially the bit about how these contracts will need to be filled.  Perhaps they might go to a more deserving recipient than the likes of Carillion with such a bad reputation yet still got the juicy contracts (see also G4S, who I wouldn't trust to run a car wash?)... maybe it throws out a message that you can't run such a shoddy operation and expect to be bailed out on the public tit?  Of course, the big boys who ran Carillion into the ground with still see payoffs that are more money than the rest of us will ever see in our lives, but 'this is the modern world' like The Jam once said...

See, I can dish out applause as opposed to just brickbats when it comes to the Tories, ldopas!  Hope you're well, mate.   ;)

On Carillion - how the fck they end up in so much debt over a billion.  Who will fulfil the contracts . Most importantly 10000s jobs could be lost

OK, I know that the government didn't actually bail out Carillion, but this is pretty funny...

Can you not use a word like document. Their are plenty of downloads that do a similar function?

Your new computer... does it offer you a free trial of Microsoft Office?  If you've installed Windows (whatever version and most new computers have that option) that should be the case, you'll only have it for a month but it should tide you over for the time being...

Of course you've probably checked that out, but just in case you hadn't...?   :-\

Open office or libre office (freeware) offer nearly the same as microsoft word, excel and access for free; you can open docx  and safe the files in this format - worth testing it ;)
And me, I`ve got a black place in my heart
