Maybe Space can post a Youtube performance of this "better" version of  Inheritance.

That I would love to see  :)
Nah, unfortunately I can't upload it. I recorded my guitar parts onto "Inheritance" about twenty years ago. Sadly, my work on the song is lost to the ages.

But you'll have to believe me that I improved the song. I took what Sullivan and Heaton laid down, added my guitar over it, and transformed their interesting tune into a really great tune.

I do that a lot, actually. I've even made some Beatle songs better.

I've improved Beatles songs and have the musical talents of a Centipede on piano.
Improving a Sullivan, Heaton track from merely interesting to a really great tune, you must have a lot of talent or just poking your stick into a Hornets nest again, Im not sure which. ::)

Sod next week, that will keep me in giggles until about September, I reckon.

Don't hide your light under a bushel, old chap.  You really are too modest.

My two year old was playing some pots and pans over somethingon Kiss Fm the other day. I thought he did a good job lol.

Marrakech is a beautiful song. In fact id struggle to find a bad song on Impurity.

Nah, "Marrakesh" is a rather dull song. Most of the tunes that Sullivan does with just acoustic and voice are snooze-fests. "These Words," however, is a rare exception. Great song.

When I hear a song like "Marrakesh" or "Ballad" I am always tempted to break out my electric guitar and improve the song.  I don't know how the producers involved in those projects in which a slow, long, dull acoustic tune is presented didn't show a bit of strength and say, "Whoa, that sleeping pill is not going on the album."

Space, I am glad to tell you that you are completely and utterly wrong. Marrakesh is a superb, spirit uplifting ballad. It demonstrates very well the ability of JS as a song writer and performer to able to compose a  wide range of song types from punk to gentle ballads. Lyrically it is a fine piece of work.

Marrakesh and "Ballad" would be completely ruined and loose their meaning and strong impact with drums and electric guitars killing their fine flow.

AND THATS A FACT !!  :D

I completely agree with Shush.  You're completely out of your mind of you think the "guitar and a voice" songs are dull.

Unfortunately I won't and will never believe a word you say.

I think with comments like I've highlighted above you're just out to provoke a reaction.

Why aren't you out there earning your millions and isn't it a shame that you 'somehow' can't find your much improved version,if indeed it does exist.

if you are in fact the musician you say you are it shouldn't be too hard to re record it for our listening pleasure so we can judge whether you are the god you say or it's just another load of b****x

I amongst others won't hold our breath for the upload as I know it cannot be bettered.

Cheers

PS Apologies to anyone who I may of offended but these threads and comments by Space are starting to wear a bit thin.

Maybe one day they will have something positive to say about the band :)

Good call. Space, it should be easy for you to knock this off and let us hear it for ourselves. You'll probably say you can't be bothered, but why not put your money where your mouth is and let your music do the talking?

1. Even if I did find my improved version of "Inheritance," I wouldn't know how to upload it. I have zero interest in computers and USB ports and video cams... Have no idea how to upload anything to a computer. It is not a question of being bothered, it is really that I have no idea how to do it.

2. Now even if I did get a video camera and cables and learned how to upload stuff to youtube, the thing is I added my guitar parts to "Inheritance" twenty years ago. Unfortunately exactly what I did that day is forgotten. It was pure, it was a one shot take...twenty years later there is no way to replicate that sudden rush of inspiration. What I would record today would not be as good. First take is always the best for raw emotion. That first take I did on "Inheritance" is sadly lost to the ages.

So, a) the version I did is long lost, b) today I can't replicate what I did then, and c) I don't even know how to get stuff up on a computer. For those three reasons you really do just have to take my word for it: Sullivan/Heaton's "Inheritance" became a better song with my added guitar parts.

PS: There's tons of things I love about New Model Army. There is absolutely nothing I could add to "Western Dream" that would improve it. John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Beethoven and Bach all working together couldn't come up with anything to improve that song. (But I bet those guys could make "Ballad" a better tune.)

Space,

I think you need to put up or shut up.

I for one am getting slightly pissed off with all your bullshit.

If ya don't like computers and the like you'd better log off this forum and please do not return.

I doubt you'd be missed.

Log on to a Beatles forum and tell them you've improved the songs written and played by Lennon and McCartney

Goodbye

Ok. Im gonna stay neutral here and avoid accusations etc. Better is perhaps the wrong word. Different maybe. And maybe Space like his version better than the originals. Nowt wrong with that.

However I will say that clearly on a fans forum its a bit disrespectful to say better than artists we love and grew up with. Im not interested in who is better than who. I like all music that I like. I cant say any artists can make a song better than what it was intended to be. Just different.

Adding guitar to "Inheritance" is like scribbling a black felt-tip moustache on the Mona Lisa

I think we've all totally misunderstood you Space. I read this out to everyone in the office today and the whole place fell about laughing, it was one of those real coming together moments - I think you're actually a stand up comedian. Either way honey, a big thank you because it inspired one particularly selfish individual to put the kettle on and make us all a cup of tea  :)  :-*
