^I agree 100% with this.

An article I read a while ago explained how we tend to be more afraid of threats that we are less...familiar with as opposed to everday threads. For example, getting in your car and driving to work. Look at how many people get injured or die in care-related accidents every day. But (most of us) depend on a car to get to work, get around, we are used to them, also used to hearing about accidents - but still we don't worry constantly about getting hurt on our way to work.

It's just highly unlikely that you are going to die in a terrorist attack - so just do what you would normally do and enjoy life = you win.  :)

Plus, the world has always been a very dangerous place, there have always been terrorist attacks, long before IS: we had the RAF in Germany, the UK had the IRA - to name but a few. These days, we get much more information way quicker than only a couple of years before so it's easy to come to believe things have gotten a lot worse - but I honestly believe that is not the case.

I'm going to a show tomorrow night - Black Star Riders - and while the poor people at the Bataclan will certainly be on everyone's mind, I am certainly not afraid.

Hi Stephanie... sorry to bring back an old post... and I completely agree with almost everything that you're saying...

I'm a bit unsure about what you mean by equating the RAF with the IRA?  :(

Not trying to insult your beliefs but as someone who had family in Warrington (as did Idopas) I'm struggling a bit with this one...?

People say it's not that likely but look at this

[url][http://sputniknews.com/europe/20151119/1030380527/isil-terror-attacks-g20.html[url]

They had planned an attack on Antalya but did not go through. On night clubs and hotels.
I was in Antalya on those exact dates in the center near hotels and nightclubs.
If it had gone through there is a chance i would not be typing. It is not an irrational fear.

Oh, Amandistan... if that's the way you truly feel, then perhaps it's time to move back to the US, move into a basement apartment and rarely walk outside your door except for groceries.  A patronising comment...? Perhaps.  But you've chosen to walk into a world full of potential dangers, very few of which are linked with terrorism.  And, for the hundredth time, I admire you for it.

You need to decide whether you are afraid of the world (and every possible bad thing in it) or you're gonna throw yourself out there and take it all on.  Those are the two options available.

Without any intention of rudeness, surely more people are killed in America by non terrorist guns than Islamic state could ever dream of.
I guess that makes everyone's point, life ending events can happen at any time, traffic, lightning even you name it the possibilitys are endless.

As Rays recent health issue showed us all, life is short and you don't know what is around the corner, so enjoy it as much as you possibly can, especially when your age Amanda and don't have any ties.
Enjoy yourself girl and don't worry about it

Yes, looked at it and there's nothing in that piece of journalism that convinces me it's true

Nobody has said it can't happen, but the odds are it's not likely to happen to you

You can't live your life in constant fear, it'll just drag you down and those around you.

Oops, yes, that's exactly it - sorry for the confusion, Master Ray (and everyone else, of course). Thank you for clearing that up.  :)

I am not quite sure how reliable that source is - but let's assume it is reliable and what they write is true.
It didn't happen and you are still alive. This is all that matters, isn't it?  :) I mean, seriously, we will never know how often we have nearly escaped death because we were at a certain spot on the motorway, on some road...anywhere really...when we were. A bit earlier or later might have made a huge difference, could have meant we would have been killed or seriously injured - us or somebody we love. We can't ever know, I am sure it happens a lot , though. But we cannot and must not think about this all the time.

A dear friend of mine lives in Brussels, or pretty near, just a 10-minute drive for her. She stayed with us this past weekend and we had a great time, despite what is going on there right now. She is back now, texted me this morning. Of course it is a bit scary she says...but she won't give in to her worries. I think that's the way to go. Not easy sometimes, I know, but what else can we do? :)

I have very bad anxiety. I never said I would not live in the world. American has been threatened by IS as well.
They threatened NYC and DC. Why would I go there?

I find it a bit ridiculing that people tell me things like not to go outside. I worry about everything. It is just how my brain is.  I am sure i have worried about all the other possible ways to be killed.

Too American and expensive for my liking. I have no interest in going to NY. DC only for Smithsonian. I would rather see the western side of America if I had to choose.
I doubt it's better than Turkey. This is the best culture and people I have seen yet.

Would it be rude to ask where you've actually been to in Turkey?
